GPFA New Scholarship Recipients

Empowering the Future: Gbowee Peace Foundation Awards Scholarships to 50 Deserving University Students

In 2024, the Gbowee Peace Foundation, through its African Youth Education Initiative (AYEI) program, made a significant impact in the lives of young scholars in Liberia. With generous support from the MasterCard Foundation, the initiative awarded scholarships to fifty (50) deserving local university students, empowering them to pursue their higher education dreams.

This remarkable scholarship program is part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to fostering education, leadership, and economic empowerment among young Africans. The recipients of the scholarships come from diverse backgrounds, yet they all share a common trait—determination to excel academically and contribute positively to their communities.

A Commitment to Education and Change

Since its inception, the African Youth Education Initiative has sought to address the barriers that prevent talented young people from accessing quality education. By alleviating financial burdens, the program enables students to focus on their academic pursuits, develop leadership skills, and prepare for meaningful careers. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Gbowee Peace Foundation, which is to cultivate a generation of change-makers equipped with knowledge and resources to drive social progress.

The support from the MasterCard Foundation has been instrumental in expanding the reach and impact of AYEI. This partnership underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing educational inequality and empowering young people to lead change within their societies.

Celebrating the Scholars

The fifty scholars awarded in 2024 represent the future of Liberia. They have demonstrated resilience, academic excellence, and a passion for creating positive change. With fields of study ranging from engineering, medicine, and business to education and social sciences, these students will play vital roles in shaping the country's future.

Beyond financial support, the scholarship recipients will also have access to mentorship, leadership training, and career development opportunities, ensuring they are well-equipped to make the most of their education and contribute meaningfully to society.

A Step Toward a Brighter Future

The Gbowee Peace Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to create opportunities for young people, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. By investing in education, the Foundation is building a stronger, more resilient Liberia, one scholar at a time.

As we celebrate the achievements of these fifty students, we also acknowledge the importance of continued support from stakeholders, donors, and advocates of education. Together, we can create a future where every young person has access to the tools and resources needed to succeed.
