Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa Hosts 16th Feminist Lecture Series

The Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa hosted the 16th edition of its Feminist Lecture Series, “Is Patriarchy Hurting Men?”, on June 18 at the Bela Casa Hotel in Monrovia.

The discussion considered how patriarchal expectations in Liberia can shape the roles of women and men in family, community, and public life. It invited reflection on how narrow ideas about leadership, responsibility, and authority may limit women and girls’ participation, while also placing pressures on men to meet restrictive expectations.

The panel featured Pastor Varney E. Qualah, Mr. Joseph Odoh, and Mr. Abraham Saa Blow Tamba. Madam Leymah R. Gbowee, 2011 Nobel Peace Laureate, moderated the conversation, asking the panelists to share their experiences, aspirations, and the challenges they had overcome on their paths to success.

This edition aimed to foster an open exchange of ideas and experiences, and to encourage leadership approaches that value the contributions of women and girls and support a more inclusive and equitable society.
